In the Beginning

As stated in the previous document the Order of Elder Light is a religious order. Our focus is on the balance set down by the Gods before the creation of man. This balance is not just an internal balance, it is an all encompassing balance. We celebrate the masculine and feminine as separate aspects of the universe not as part of a singular deification as many of the neopagan orders do. We celebrate gods and goddesses for their separateness as this is how we know the balance.

	Forsaking all for the balance.

The Law was writ down in the time before time.
As it was set down before the memory of man.
By the hand of the Gods it was written.
The nature of the things that were to be.
The balance of all, the dark and the light,
of good and evil, masculine and feminine.
The order of the animals that came before man.
			Rev. Greg Sands Sr.

This above verse is how we view this balance, it is one of the divine laws, unchangeable, by man. We seek to celebrate the balance in ourselves, nature and the universe. In this way we believe that we will gain a closeness to the divine and gain the wisdom and understanding that we call enlightenment.

...although the leading deities were assumed to be ethical and moral in their conduct, the fact remained that, in accordance with the world view of the Sumerians, they were also the ones who in the process of establishing civilization had planned evil and falsehood, violence and oppression - in short, all the immoral and unethical modes of human conduct. Thus, for example, among the list of me's 1, the rules and regulations devised by the gods to make the cosmos run smoothly and effectively, there are riot only those which regulate "truth", "peace", "goodness", and "justice", but also those which govern "falsehood", "strife", "lamentation", and "fear".

Samuel Noah Kramer - THE SUMERIANS: Their History, Culture and Character. P. 125 2

We are not a nature religion, we are a temple religion. As did the great Sumerians see a separation between their divine and that which occurred in nature, with the divine only influencing the natural order, so we too see it the same way.

In the beginning was a spark, it was the first spark of creation, that which brought forth Nammu, the Great Mother. Nammu is the first of all, she is creation itself, all that is came from her.

Heaven and Earth were created and placed together in space. Brought forth into heaven were the Anunnaki, these are the gods. Anunnaki being of divine nature were able to freely move about Heaven and Earth. Nammu seeing that this was not good, set Heaven and Earth apart, each in it's own place.

Man was created as the servants and worshippers of the Anunnaki. Created in divine work, from the evolution of the Earth and the energy of life from the Abzu, we are bound to both, the short lived physical which binds us to the Earth from which we came and the undying spirit created from the Abzu, the energy that is life.
